Flume: On the future, Chet Faker, Vegemite & Miley Cyrus

How do you go about introducing Flume, the Aussie who’s having it large overseas? He’d just say he makes electronic music. And what about the rest? The world-spanning acclaim, the tours with Disclosure, the crossover debut album that secured him four ARIA Awards in front of a home crowd? It’s all testament to his independent spirit; his power to coat music with little addictive nuances that go on forever. His is a talent that grabs at off-cuts and turns them into melodic riots favorable to Radio1’s demographic as well as his own.

But as well as meeting Flume we also met Harley Stretten. Harley of club-ready duo What So Not; Harley Stretten, fan of Kylie and Vegemite. The real man behind the get ups is confident and self-assured in his manner. He’s also pleasant, courteous and sparing with his time. But crucially, he knows why he’s good, and that’s what makes him interesting. It’s great to hear him talk about music, but underneath the artistry he knows so well, there’s an affable young man waiting to talk about where he bought his latest jacket.
